A weekly look back and look forward from Pastor Wayne

Looking Back: This past Sunday found us in Hebrews 2:14-18. What stood out for me in the passage was the emphasis on Jesus’ humanity! Verse 18 reminded us that Jesus really suffered under temptation. I think we might be inclined to figure that being God, temptation kind of slide by Jesus like water off the back of a duck. However, what the Hebrew writer wants us to know is that Jesus also being human, really did suffer when He was tempted. And why is this important? Because only Jesus both God and man can help us when we are tempted. He suffered as we suffer when tempted and thus, He can help us to overcome. I trust you are experiencing overcoming temptation this week!

Looking Ahead:

This coming Sunday we move into Hebrews 3 in our series “Satisfied with the Savior.” Verses 1-6 provide a Jewish audience a context to Jesus as the true author and perfecter of our faith. The Hebrew writer accomplishes the goal of pointing out the priority of Jesus by referring to Moses. Moses was a builder of the nation of Israel, and he was “faithful in all of God’s house.” However comparing Moses to Jesus, Jesus is the true builder, and He was faithful to God. Why does this matter? Jesus is the builder of our faith. We must be rooted and built up in Him. He’s the Son of God and here’s what’s so amazing – Jesus was over God’s house and if we know Christ we are in God’s house! Therefore, who do we boast in? Jesus! Join us this Sunday and discover afresh the priority of Jesus. He is our firm foundation. Btw, don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead Sat. night!

Looking Beyond: Before long, it will be Palm Sunday, Holy Week, Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday. I plan on giving an “Easter” series around the significance and importance of Jerusalem. As you watch the news, look at the internet, remember what’s going on in the Middle East at this very hour calls us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. This is ultimately the goal, the center, the location of all the conflict we’ve lived through in the Middle East! Before we get to Holy Week, Sunday March 15 we continue in the “Satisfied with the Savior, or Satisfaction with the Savior” series. March 15th our focus will be on the “little foxes that spoil the vines.”
