A weekly look back and look forward from Pastor Wayne
Looking Back: We’re off and running for the New Year! Several of us expressed on Sunday how real the presence of Jesus was in our midst. We were blessed to be together worshiping the Risen Lord!
Just a quick review – we started last Sunday with Hebrews 1:1-3 with the theme – “Satisfied with the Savior.” I hope you remember that in the first message we asked the question – “Who is Jesus?” God showed us from His Word that Jesus is God in human form, He’s God’s voice to us, He’s the One with all authority, He’s the Creator, and He’s the radiance of God’s Glory! And He holds the whole world in His hands, He’s the perfect sin offering, and He’s at the Father’s right hand! God’s Word really was encouraging!
Looking Ahead:
This coming Sunday is just the second Sunday of January! Wow, and thankfully the weather feels more like November than the bitter cold we normally have in January. We move forward in our series from Hebrews to 1:4-10. As you take to time to read this passage in advance of Sunday allow me to encourage you to reflect on this question…Why Jesus? Last Sunday we considered Who is Jesus, now Why Jesus? The Hebrew writer answering this question reminds us that Jesus is superior to angels. This might seem a bit of an odd distraction for us today, but in the first century the topic of angels was very popular and very controversial. I will note this Sunday that “there’s always temptation to worship anything but Jesus.” Why not angels – they are not God’s son, they worship Jesus, and they are not creators as Christ is. Join us this Sunday to learn more about “Why Jesus?” so you might grow increasingly to submit to Him as Lord! See you Sunday at 10.30 and 9.30 for our study on the Day of the Lord.
Looking Beyond: Please note that January 18th is our Annual Meeting with a covered dish meal to follow. EVERYONE is welcome. Please see the sign-up sheet in the hallway to indicate what you would like to bring!
