A weekly look back and look forward from Pastor Wayne

Looking Back: Last Sunday we concluded our brief series from 1 Corinthians 13. I trust you came away from the series with a renewed focus on Jesus Christ. When the Bible says that the gifts will cease what will remain is Faith, Hope, and Love, faith, hope, and love in and from Jesus Christ! There’s lots of theories as to when the gifts will cease. What I trust we came away with was a reminder that what remains is Jesus Christ, faith in Him, hope in Him, and love in and from Him. Look forward to that glorious day when we will see Him face to face and we will be like Him. What a marvelous day, either when Jesus comes again, or at the time of our passing from our earthly journey!

Looking Ahead:

This coming Sunday is Thanksgiving Sunday, four days before the annual celebration of Thanksgiving. Plan on joining us for a special service of giving thanks. I plan on speaking from Ephesians 1:16-23. In this passage Paul begins: “I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.” Giving thanks for the believers appears to be a very common expression and activity on Paul’s behalf. Philippians begins with a somewhat similar statement, as does Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, and even 1 Timothy. I conclude therefore that a significant biblical dimension of thanksgiving is giving thanks for our brothers and sisters in Christ. And yet, how infrequently do we hear this kind of prayer, and I wonder, thinking of myself, how often do I give thanks for the believers at Colonial Park. Come this Sunday prepared for a Thanksgiving twist. It should put a whole new perspective on Thanksgiving! See you Sunday!

Looking Beyond: On Sunday, November 30 we begin our annual Advent services. Each Sunday of Advent we will light candles of hope, peace, joy, and love. The message on November 30 comes from Ruth 1 with the title: “Ruth finds Hope in Jesus.” Invite a friend to join us!
