Have you ever considered what you’re building your life on? Jesus tells a story in Luke 12 about “a certain rich man.” It seems from the parable this rich dude was a farmer. His ground got him an abundant harvest. Today this parable might be told of wealthy hedge fund manager. He knows the right people, his timing of the market is impeccable. Result, he owns a lovely summer house at the Jersey Shore. His residence in Camp Hill is opulent. His hedge fund has outperformed the stock market and last year his gains were especially good. So, what does he think to himself? That is after-all the biblical text – Luke 12:17 “He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.” The hedge fund manager does the same – he thinks to himself, what shall I do? I’ve made a boatload of money this year. And in that very moment, the decision is made. “I will retire; I’ve got it made in the shade. So, what I’m barely 47!” And retire he does.
The story from Luke 12 is the foundation for the message this Sunday from Hebrews 6:13-20. God’s Word will remind us that “our sure foundation is Jesus.” We don’t build on worldly success. Do you remember what happens in Jesus’ parable? God speaks to the “certain rich man” and says “you fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared yourself for?”
As you read the text from Hebrews 6 in preparation for Sunday, simply ask yourself, ‘what am I building my life upon?’
Thanks for continuing to pray for those in our congregation experiencing physical challenges. Sunday morning, we will provide an update.
I trust you will continue to experience God’s blessings and work as you serve Him this week. I’m praying for you! See you Sunday at 9.30 and 10.30.
