A weekly look back and look forward from Pastor Wayne
Looking Back: Last Sunday I concluded the message with the question, “How’s your stickiness factor?” We learned from Hebrews 3:12-19 that it is way too easy give up in the Christian life. Our stickiness factor reflects how prepared we are to press on rather than give up. The Hebrew writer encouraged us to not let our hearts hardened, don’t let sin keep you from pressing on – instead keep at it, and let’s encourage each other to keep at it. Did you write the name of a person you could encourage? Have you begun thinking about how to encourage them? Remembering Israel’s experience should help us to keep at it. Don’t let unbelief reign in your heart, so encourage daily, don’t give up, and do remember!
Looking Ahead:
This coming Sunday begins Holy Week. We will celebrate Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Resurrection Sunday with a series around the significance and importance of Jerusalem. The series begins in Luke 19:28-44 – “Why Jerusalem? Part I – Weeping over the City.” As Jesus is about to enter His city, the Bible records for us that He weeps. Most often we focus Palm Sunday on the adulation and worship of the crowd. Immediately when the noise stops Jesus weeps because He knows the people do not know the “things that make for peace.” The rejoicing, the praising of the crowd will quickly turn to “crucify Him, crucify Him,” but five days later. As Luke 19:44 notes, “they did not know the time of God’s visitation.” Now was the hour of salvation and they had determined to reject Him. How tragic! Can we fall into the same trap. Absolutely! Now is the hour for salvation, and we can miss it! The only way to avoid missing this day, is to desire to be with Jesus (Mark 3:14). I trust that reflects your life! See you Sunday!
Looking Beyond: We will celebrate Maundy Thursday on April 2 at 7.00 pm. Join us as we will participate in the Lord’s Supper. Beyond Thursday we look forward to Resurrection morning with a breakfast at 8.30, singing the songs of Resurrection at 9.30 and our special Resurrection celebration at 10.30. Plan to invite a friend.
