A weekly look back and look forward from Pastor Wayne
Looking Back: The central message of Hebrews is the centrality of Jesus Christ! Consider the question we asked last Sunday – Why Jesus? Why not Buddha or Mohammed or any other religious leader? Because at the core Jesus alone is the One we can be satisfied with. The Hebrew writer in the passage we considered last Sunday from verses 4-10 of chapter 1 contrasts Jesus with angels. Angels help us to worship Him, but they are not to be worshipped. They are not God’s Son and they are not creators! Only Jesus is God’s Son and a Creator. Further, Hebrews reminds us that the Father and the Son are equal, anything of the Father’s is Jesus. And Jesus anointed is above all! All things were created by Him. At His name every knee will bow! This of course affirms that Jesus is Lord! And as we concluded the message this past Sunday, “are we going to submit to His ownership or simply go it our own way?”
Looking Ahead:
We continue this Sunday with our focus on being “satisfied with the Savior.” Too often in life we are being tempted to find satisfaction in something other than Jesus! Fundamental to this, is acknowledging that Jesus is Lord! When we submit to Jesus as Lord then finding satisfaction in anything else makes no sense, it is indeed really not possible. Saint Augustine put it this way; “our hearts are restless until they rest” in Jesus. Why can we rest in Jesus, indeed as last week, why Jesus? Because Jesus remains forever! Buddha is gone, Mohammed is dead, but Jesus is alive interceding at the right hand of the Father. Join us this Sunday at 10.30 as we are reminded that Jesus alone satisfies. Btw, please don’t forget that this Sunday is our Annual Business Meeting immediately after the service. The meeting is followed by a great shared meal. PLEASE JOIN US and bring a dish to share! Could I also ask you to call folks in the church who do not have email and invite them to be present!
Looking Beyond: Sunday January 25th we will ask the question – “why are we satisfied?” It is because of what we have in Jesus!
